Writing at Wickersley Northfield Primary
Intent
At Wickersley Northfield Primary School, we aim to provide pupils with the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to become lifelong learners who enjoy writing. We strive to create learners who can confidently communicate their knowledge, ideas and creativity through a range of text types. We want our pupils to write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style for a range of contexts with real purposes and audiences at the heart of everything they write. We believe that all good writers require independence and so we teach our pupils how to successfully plan, revise and evaluate their own writing. As a result, children in our school are able to confidently identify their own areas for improvement in all pieces of writing, editing their work effectively during and after the writing process to create excellent and interesting pieces throughout. We believe that all pupils should be encouraged to take pride in the presentation of their writing, in part by developing a neat, joined, handwriting style by the time they move to secondary school.
IPEELL
As a school, we use The IPEELL Strategy to support our teaching of writing.

Through effective teacher modelling/scaffolding and the application of spelling, grammar and punctuation rules, the children at Wickersley Northfield Primary will explore a range of text types throughout their Literacy journey. We aim to create exciting writing opportunities using real audiences and purposes throughout.
